Kathryn Newton plays Lisa, an awkward teen nobody at school bothers to understand. A freak lightning storm reanimates her morbid crush — a Victorian corpse who claws his way out of an overgrown cemetery, played by Cole Sprouse. Together they go on a messy, body-part-collecting spree in search of love and a few spare limbs. Carla Gugino turns the wicked-stepmother role into something gleefully monstrous.

This is Zelda Williams' first feature, written by Diablo Cody of Juno fame. The result is bubblegum-goth comedy: the gore is rubbery, the jokes are pitch-black, and the soundtrack runs on late-'80s synth-pop.
