Fahrenheit 451

Fahrenheit 451 (2018) is HBO's dystopian thriller, and you can watch it online on iFILM. In a near-future America, firemen don't put out fires; they start them, burning every book they find. Guy Montag (Michael B. Jordan) is the best at the job, until he isn't sure why he does it.

The state has branded the printed word a source of pain and division, and a population glued to wall-sized screens cheers each bonfire on. Montag's mentor, Captain Beatty (Michael Shannon), believes in that order with a true zealot's heart. Then an informant named Clarisse (Sofia Boutella) crosses his path, and a few stolen lines he reads instead of torching begin to crack everything he was taught.

Ramin Bahrani moves Ray Bradbury's 1953 novel into an age of smartphones and constant surveillance, betting the film on two actors: Jordan's quiet rebellion against Shannon's icy conviction.
