The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games (2012) is a dystopian sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Director Gary Ross adapted Suzanne Collins' bestselling 2008 novel for Lionsgate, casting Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen — a teenager from the impoverished District 12 who steps in to replace her younger sister when the annual lottery picks her name.

The premise: every year, each of twelve districts sends two young people — one girl, one boy — to compete in a televised fight where only one of the twenty-four walks out alive. The Capitol watches it all as entertainment. Katniss enters alongside Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), a boy from her hometown. Her odds go up with the help of former victor Haymitch Abernathy, played by Woody Harrelson. Donald Sutherland plays the coldly composed President Snow, who sets the tone for the entire franchise.

Released in March 2012, the film opened to $152 million domestically in its first weekend and launched a four-part series that earned close to $3 billion worldwide.
