The Night Eats the World

The Night Eats the World (La nuit a dévoré le monde, 2018) is Dominique Rocher's French zombie horror, and you can watch online on iFILM. Sam crashes in a back room during a stranger's loud party and wakes to total silence. Overnight, Paris has died. The dead now shuffle through its streets.

What follows is nearly a one-man show. Sam, played by Anders Danielsen Lie, barricades the building, raids apartments for food, keeps a diary, bangs a drum kit to stay sane, and talks to a zombie trapped in the elevator, the closest thing he has to company. No hordes, no chases, no heroics. Just one man surviving alone for months, slowly realizing the real threat isn't the teeth behind the door but the emptiness inside. Golshifteh Farahani and a wild Denis Lavant turn up in brief, memorable beats.

Rocher reworks the apocalypse genre into a hushed parable about isolation, closer in mood to I Am Legend than to The Walking Dead. It's adapted from Pit Agarmen's novel. This one is an acquired taste: slow, light on action, gripping precisely because of its quiet and solitude. If loud zombie shoot-'em-ups have worn you out, give it a shot.
