Cell
When everyone is connected no one is safe.
Synopsis
Cell (2016) is a sci-fi horror film adapted from Stephen King's novel, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Graphic artist Clay Riddell is stuck at Boston's airport when a strange pulse rips through every cell network and turns anyone holding a phone into a savage, mindless attacker.
King co-wrote the screenplay with Adam Alleca. Clay (John Cusack) fights his way out of a city tearing itself apart, heading north to find out whether his estranged wife and young son were lucky enough to be off their phones. Along the way he falls in with subway driver Tom (Samuel L. Jackson) and a teenage girl named Alice. The infected, called "phoners," begin moving as a single swarm, flocking together and dropping into an eerie shared trance at night, as if something is rewriting the species. The deeper the survivors push, the clearer it becomes that an intelligence is steering the signal.
Director Tod Williams reunites Cusack and Jackson after 1408, another King adaptation, and lands on an ending that veers hard from the book and splits viewers down the middle. Mainly one for King completists and fans of a digital twist on the zombie apocalypse. Stream Cell (2016) online on iFILM.
