Mystic River

Jimmy Markum (Sean Penn) runs a corner store and keeps ties to his old criminal world. Sean Devine (Kevin Bacon) is a homicide detective. Dave Boyle (Tim Robbins) never fully recovered from something that happened to him as a boy. When Jimmy's daughter Katie is killed, Sean catches the case, Dave comes home that night with someone else's blood on him and won't explain why, and Jimmy decides the law moves too slow. Their wives — Celeste (Marcia Gay Harden) and Annabeth (Laura Linney) — watch and say little. Everyone is keeping something back.
