Synopsis

The Final Countdown (1980) is a sci-fi war adventure you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Don Taylor. During peacetime drills near Hawaii, the nuclear carrier USS Nimitz sails into a glowing electrical storm and comes out the other side into early December 1941, hours from the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Captain Yelland (Kirk Douglas) and his crew face an impossible choice. The most powerful warship ever built is sitting off Hawaii with the firepower to wipe out the incoming Japanese fleet before a single bomb drops. But do they have the right to rewrite what already happened? Martin Sheen plays a Defense Department observer caught in the middle, Katharine Ross is a 1941 survivor pulled from a sunken yacht, and James Farentino is the officer the time loop grips hardest.

The film was shot aboard the actual Nimitz with full Navy cooperation, so the flight-deck launches and screaming F-14 Tomcats are the real thing, not models. It cares more about the moral knot than the dogfights, and its solution to the time paradox lands with a quiet, clever twist. Perfect for fans of old-school "what if" sci-fi and pre-CGI military spectacle. Stream The Final Countdown (1980) online on iFILM.
