Synopsis
Pontypool (2009) is a Canadian horror film by Bruce McDonald you can watch online on iFILM. Shock-jock Grant Mazzy clocks in at a small-town radio station buried in a church basement, expecting another dull winter shift.
Then the call-ins turn strange. People are repeating words, mobbing the streets, losing their minds. Mazzy (Stephen McHattie), his producer Sydney and assistant Laurel-Ann are stuck behind the mic, piecing the outbreak together from voices they can't see. The twist: the infection doesn't spread through blood or bites. It rides the English language itself, certain words that lodge in the brain and rot it.
Tony Burgess adapted his own novel into something closer to a radio play than a gore-fest. Almost the entire movie lives in one room, carried by McHattie's gravel voice and dead air. It's a zombie story for people who'd rather be unsettled by an idea than chased by a corpse. Stream Pontypool online on iFILM.
