The Void
There Is a Hell. This Is Worse.
Synopsis
The Void (2016) — watch online a Canadian practical-effects horror directed by Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski, streaming on iFILM. Night-shift deputy Daniel Carter, played by Aaron Poole, scrapes a bloodied stranger off an empty road and drives him to the nearest hospital. That's where normal ends.
A nurse slices off her own face in the corridor. Patients start becoming things. Outside, figures in white robes ring the building — not trying to get in, just standing. And the hospital basement goes down further than any basement should. Kathleen Munro plays Carter's estranged wife, a nurse caught in the middle; Art Hindle is a retired surgeon who knows more than he lets on. The creature effects were built by hand — latex, paint, animatronics — a deliberate rejection of CGI in favour of the visceral physicality that defined horror in the early 1980s.
Gillespie and Kostanski grew up on Carpenter and Cronenberg, and it shows in every frame: cosmic dread, body horror, a hero who finds no comfort in understanding what he's fighting. Ninety minutes. No preamble. Stream The Void (2016) online on iFILM.
