Antebellum

Antebellum (2020) is a psychological horror thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Veronica Henley, a celebrated author and sociologist, is suddenly trapped inside a nightmarish reality and has to work out its rules before it's too late.

Janelle Monáe leads the film. Her character comes to on a Southern cotton plantation, surrounded by overseers, brutality and a way of life that seems impossible in our time. The harder Veronica tries to grasp where she is and how she got there, the more disturbing the answer becomes. The central twist is best left unspoiled — the whole movie hangs on it, and it lands hardest if you go in blind.

The directing debut of Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz comes from the producing camp behind Get Out and Us. It rhymes past with present and unsettles you through its premise rather than cheap jump scares. It's for viewers who want social weight in their horror, not just fright for its own sake.
