Synopsis
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) is Tobe Hooper's landmark horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Five young people drive across the baking Texas backcountry to check on a grandfather's old farmhouse. A stop at the place next door becomes the last one almost all of them make.
Sally (Marilyn Burns), her wheelchair-bound brother Franklin and three friends head into the dust after reports of graves being disturbed. The gas tank runs low, a hitchhiker they pick up unsettles them with bloody talk, and the air reeks of the local slaughterhouse. Looking for help inside the house, they walk straight into a family of out-of-work butchers and a hulking figure in a mask of human skin, the one who will be called Leatherface. From there the plot gives way to screaming, running and the roar of a saw in the dark.
Hooper shot the whole thing on cheap 16mm stock, and that grimy, documentary look frightens more than any effect could. There is barely any gore on screen; the dread does the work. The film set the template for the slasher and still ranks among the scariest ever made. Who will survive, and what will be left of them? Stream The Texas Chain Saw Massacre online on iFILM.
