Synopsis

Gone with the Wind (1939) is Victor Fleming's sweeping historical romance, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh), the pampered daughter of a Georgia plantation owner, is used to bending every room to her will, until the war reaches the South.

Scarlett is hopelessly stuck on Ashley Wilkes, who instead marries the gentle Melanie. Stung, she rushes into a loveless marriage, loses everything when the Union army arrives, and crawls back to a ruined Tara swearing she will never go hungry again. Always circling her is Rhett Butler (Clark Gable), a blockade-running profiteer who sees straight through her schemes. Their push-and-pull runs through the fall of Atlanta and the Reconstruction years, two stubborn people drawn together who keep wrecking what they build.

Adapted from Margaret Mitchell's novel, the film took eight competitive Oscars at the 1940 ceremony, and Hattie McDaniel became the first Black performer ever to win one. Nearly four hours long, drenched in early Technicolor, with Olivia de Havilland and Leslie Howard in support, it set the template for the Hollywood epic.
