They rent the place from a frail elderly couple, and the old man warns them on arrival to keep quiet and behave. The producer ignores him, of course, and the shoot rolls on. But the aging woman of the house watches her guests more and more closely, and behind her silence sits a raw, aching longing. By nightfall the plain farmhouse becomes a trap and the quiet property turns into a killing ground. Mia Goth plays two roles here, and that doubling becomes the spine of the whole story.

The film comes from A24, a studio known for its bold take on horror. West shoots with open affection for 1970s scare cinema, grainy film stock, a slow-burning rhythm, and provocation instead of cheap jumps. It launched a trilogy that continued with Pearl and MaXXXine.
