Synopsis

The Sunset Limited (2011) is an HBO chamber drama you can watch online on iFILM. The entire film is one conversation between two men in a worn-down Harlem apartment, where one has just dragged the other off a subway platform.

A devout ex-convict (Samuel L. Jackson) pulls a white professor (Tommy Lee Jones) back from the path of an oncoming train at the last second. Now he won't let his guest leave, trying to talk him out of trying again. For ninety minutes the two argue over God, meaning, despair and whether a life is worth saving — and neither man gives an inch.

Tommy Lee Jones directed it himself, adapting the play by Cormac McCarthy, who wrote The Road and No Country for Old Men. Two actors, one room, nothing but words, and the tension holds right to the final line. This one rewards viewers who love talk over action and don't need tidy resolution. The ending refuses to comfort you, and that's the whole point. Stream The Sunset Limited (2011) online on iFILM.
