The House

The House (2022) is a stop-motion anthology for grown-ups you can watch online on iFILM. Three eerie tales unfold inside the walls of one peculiar house, each set in a different era.

Story one drops us in the 1800s, where a struggling family is lured by the promise of wealth into a strange new mansion, never asking what the bargain costs. Story two jumps to the present and follows a frazzled developer rat fighting to flip the renovated property before it devours him. Story three finds a landlady cat clinging to tenants who no longer pay, while the world outside slowly floods. Mia Goth, Matthew Goode, Miranda Richardson and Jarvis Cocker lend their voices.

Different directors handled each chapter, among them Emma De Swaef, Marc James Roels and Niki Lindroth von Bahr, so three distinct styles share a single roof. The handmade puppetry is unsettling and weirdly cozy at once, landing somewhere between Wes Anderson and a fever dream. It is built for viewers who like their animation odd and far from kid-friendly.
