Ring 2

Ring 2 (リング 2, 1999) is Hideo Nakata's J-horror sequel to Ringu, and you can watch it online. After the strange death of Ryuji Takayama, the woman closest to him, Mai Takano, refuses the official story and starts digging on her own.

The trail loops back to that cursed tape: watch it, and you die exactly seven days later. Behind the curse waits Sadako, a girl whose power to kill with her mind outlasted her own death. Following the past, Mai reaches young Yoichi, Ryuji's son, and realizes the boy has inherited the same gift. A team of researchers tries to pull Sadako's fear out of him with machines and electrodes, but every test drags them nearer to her well. The clock is unforgiving: one week to break the curse or become the next name on it.

Nakata builds dread out of silence, damp rooms and flickering footage rather than jump scares, the style later copied across Asian horror. Hiroyuki Sanada returns, and Nanako Matsushima appears in passing. The result runs colder and bleaker than the first film.
