Synopsis
Ring (リング, 1998) is the Japanese horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Hideo Nakata directed it from Koji Suzuki's novel. Reporter Reiko starts chasing an urban legend about a cursed videotape that kills its viewers exactly one week later.
The rumor is plain and that makes it worse: watch the tape, get a phone call, and seven days later you die. When Reiko's niece dies that way, the journalist (Nanako Matsushima) stops treating it as folklore and slides the cassette into her own VCR. The phone rings. With a week left, she pulls in her ex-husband Ryuji (Hiroyuki Sanada), and together they try to trace the source of the curse and find a way to break it.
Ring works through dread and silence rather than gore, letting the fear creep in around the edges of the frame. It set off a global wave of Asian horror, spawned a 2002 Hollywood remake, and turned the image of a girl with wet hair into one of the most recognizable scares in the genre.
