Seltzer and Friedberg had already put out Epic Movie and Disaster Movie, but Vampires Suck hits a slightly sharper target. Twilight in 2010 was genuinely inescapable, which meant the jokes landed for an audience that was both mocking the franchise and halfway invested in it. Proske's impression of Bella Swan is precise enough that it works as performance, not just costume — a small thing that lifts the film above its competition in the spoof genre.
