Synopsis
Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom (2023) is a family adventure comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Guillaume Canet directs and stars as Asterix in this fifth live-action outing for the indomitable Gauls. The year is 50 BC, a coup has rocked China, and the emperor's only daughter flees west looking for help.
Princess Sa See arrives in the famous Gaulish village and asks Asterix and Obelix to restore her captive mother, the empress, to the throne. Flask of magic potion in hand, the two friends set off across half the world — unaware that Julius Caesar is marching the same way with his legions and his own designs on the riches of the East. Gilles Lellouche plays a lovestruck Obelix, Vincent Cassel chews the scenery as Caesar, and Marion Cotillard and footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović turn up in supporting roles.
Adapted from the Goscinny and Uderzo comics, this is the first film to send the pair so far east, trading sly wordplay for sheer scale, lavish costumes and a packed celebrity cast.
