Trouble starts when Caesar and his scheming deputy Detritus get wind of the magic elixir. Roman soldiers snatch the Druid who knows the recipe, and it falls to the clever little Asterix and his hulking, good-natured friend Obelix to break him out of enemy hands. Christian Clavier and Gérard Depardieu lead the duo, while Roberto Benigni hams it up as a gleeful Caesar.

Director Claude Zidi brought the beloved Franco-Belgian comic by Goscinny and Uderzo to the big screen, piling on huge sets, slapstick brawls and that signature Gaulish swagger.
