A plague has wiped out the human race, and Dr. Robert Morgan is left standing only because his body shrugged off the infection. His days run on grim routine. The infected rise, drift toward his house, surround it, and call his name, hungry for his blood. Come morning, Morgan goes hunting while they sleep.

Price carries nearly the whole picture by himself, and his worn-down despair gives this cheap-looking production a real weight of loneliness. Shot around Rome as an Italian-American co-production, it fed straight into George Romero's Night of the Living Dead a few years later.
