Synopsis
The Other Side of the Door (2016) is Johannes Roberts' supernatural horror, available to watch online on iFILM. The story moves to India, where the local setting isn't decoration but the engine driving the dread.
Maria (Sarah Wayne Callies) loses her young son in a car accident and cannot move past it. A housekeeper tells her about an old rite: in an abandoned temple stands a door between worlds, and through it a grieving mother may speak to the dead one last time to say goodbye. There is a single rule. Do not open the door, no matter what voice calls from behind it. Maria opens it anyway. What comes back wearing her son's face turns its attention on her living daughter, while ash-covered aghori figures patrol the line between life and death.
Roberts, who would later make 47 Meters Down, leans on mood over gore, with Jeremy Sisto and the eerily flexible Javier Botet in support.
