Late September, 1998. Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario) drives back to the town she fled years ago, the place where Umbrella Corporation once ran the orphanage that raised her. The pharma giant has packed up and gone, and Raccoon City is rotting from the inside. The locals look sick. Her brother, a cop, doesn't. Then the sirens go off, residents are told to stay indoors, and a small group of officers — Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine and Albert Wesker among them — is left to survive whatever Umbrella buried beneath the city.

Roberts steers hard away from the Paul Anderson movies, stitching his story from the first two games: the Spencer Mansion and the streets of an infected town. Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Hannah John-Kamen, Avan Jogia and Neal McDonough round out the cast. The film leans on dread and practical effects rather than wall-to-wall gunfire.
