Synopsis
Midsommar (2019) — watch online Ari Aster's folk horror on iFILM. Florence Pugh plays Dani, a young woman hit by devastating personal loss at the very start of the film. Her boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor) invites her on a trip to rural Sweden, where their friend Pelle's village holds a midsummer celebration once every ninety years.
The sun does not set. White linen, flower crowns, communal feasts. For the first hour the commune looks strange but harmless, a tableau of ancient Scandinavian folk tradition. Then the rituals begin. William Jackson Harper plays Josh, an anthropology student who wants to document the ceremonies; Will Poulter is Mark, who mostly wants to drink. Neither approach works out well. Cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski shot the entire horror story in broad daylight — no shadows, no darkness to hide behind — which makes everything land harder.
Aster also released a director's cut running nearly three hours; the theatrical version clocks 148 minutes. Made for $9 million, Midsommar earned close to $50 million worldwide and stands as one of the defining horror films of the 2010s. Stream Midsommar (2019) online on iFILM.
