Synopsis
Lucky (2017) is John Carroll Lynch's tender desert drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. At its center sits a ninety-year-old atheist and Navy veteran riding out his last days in a tiny, sun-baked town where everyone already knows everyone.
Lucky runs on a fixed clock: a cigarette, coffee at the diner, a crossword, a game show before bed. Then he keels over in his kitchen for no reason at all, and the doctor finds nothing wrong except age itself. That small stumble cracks open a quiet reckoning — conversations with the bartender, his insurance man, and a neighbor mourning a runaway tortoise named President Roosevelt. Among the local oddballs is David Lynch himself, playing Lucky's friend.
This was Harry Dean Stanton's final leading role; he died not long after the premiere, turning the film into an 88-minute farewell. Character actor John Carroll Lynch made his directing debut here, and it's dry and gentle, with no sentimentality, about facing the end without fear and without God. One for anyone who loves slow, humane, unhurried cinema. Stream Lucky (2017) online on iFILM.
