Synopsis
Kingdom: Ashin of the North (킹덤: 아신전, 2021) is a Korean historical horror you can watch online on iFILM. It's a standalone chapter of Netflix's Kingdom saga, built to explain the origin of the resurrection plant that drags the dead back to their feet.
At its heart is Ashin, a young woman from a border tribe stranded for generations between Joseon and the Jurchen lands, claimed by neither. After betrayal strips away everyone she loves, she's left alone, nursing a patient and icy revenge over many years. Jun Ji-hyun plays the grown Ashin, and the film leans almost entirely on her quiet, hollowed-out fury. Director Kim Seong-hun, who shot the main series, stays behind the camera here too.
Think of it as a prequel: the events run before the original seasons and trace how the plague first crept across the peninsula. Bloody and slow to tighten, it rewards viewers who already know Kingdom and want the backstory. Stream Kingdom: Ashin of the North (2021) online on iFILM.
