Synopsis
The Red Sea Diving Resort (2019) is a fact-based spy drama you can watch online on iFILM. Sudan, the early 1980s. A small crew of Israeli intelligence operatives takes on the job of smuggling thousands of Ethiopian Jews out of Africa as famine and war close in.
To keep Sudanese authorities off their backs, the agents cook up an audacious front: they lease an abandoned hotel on the coast and reopen it as a working dive resort for European holidaymakers. By day the team tans tourists and runs them out to the reefs; by night it slips refugees down to the shore, where ships and planes wait to carry them onward. One slip means a bullet or a cell. Chris Evans plays stubborn field agent Ari Levinson, backed by Haley Bennett, Michael Kenneth Williams, Ben Kingsley and Greg Kinnear.
It draws on Mossad missions that quietly moved tens of thousands of people to Israel across that decade; names and specifics are changed, but the bones of it happened. Gideon Raff, the mind behind Prisoners of War, shoots it as a slick caper-thriller rather than a heavy chronicle. Stream The Red Sea Diving Resort (2019) online on iFILM.
