About

Synopsis

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) is Justin Chadwick's historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. It traces one man's road from a boy in a remote Transkei village to the president that, for the first time, everyone got to vote for.

Idris Elba carries half a century of Nelson Mandela: the young Johannesburg lawyer, the underground organizer who turned to force once peaceful doors slammed shut, and the prisoner who handed twenty-seven years to a cell on Robben Island. Threaded through it is Winnie's story (Naomie Harris), her fury hardening for exactly as long as her husband stayed locked away. The film refuses to sand him into a saint — prison cracks the marriage, and it shows the damage.

The screenplay draws on Mandela's own autobiography, the one he began drafting behind bars. U2's closing song "Ordinary Love" took home a Golden Globe. If you want a biopic with a real, fractured person in it rather than a monument, Elba is the reason to stay. Stream Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013) online on iFILM.
