Synopsis

The Queen (2006) is a British historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Stephen Frears from Peter Morgan's screenplay. Helen Mirren won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Elizabeth II.

Late August 1997. Diana's death in a Paris underpass triggers a wave of public grief that the Palace does not know how to meet. The Queen retreats to Balmoral to mourn in private, in keeping with everything the monarchy has always stood for. Newly elected Prime Minister Tony Blair — played by Michael Sheen — quickly grasps that the royal silence is reading as indifference to millions of people watching the news. He begins a quiet campaign to bring the Crown back to London and in front of cameras before the anger turns structural.

The film occupies a compressed window of days: phone calls, protocol disputes, a flag that may or may not fly at half-mast, and a woman for whom duty has never been optional. No recreation of the crash, no crowd spectacle — just the friction between private grief and public expectation, and two figures trying to broker something neither fully understands.
