Murder by Numbers

Murder by Numbers (2002) is a crime thriller from director Barbet Schroeder that you can watch online on iFILM. A young woman's body turns up in a roadside ravine outside the California town of San Benito, and homicide detective Cassie Mayweather catches the case.

Sandra Bullock plays Cassie against type — a prickly, damaged investigator who reads a crime scene better than anyone and won't let go. The trouble is she's chasing two killers, not one. They're privileged high schoolers: cold, manipulative Richard (Ryan Gosling) and the quieter Justin (Michael Pitt) who does whatever Richard wants. The boys think they've engineered the perfect murder and treat the investigation as a game.

Loosely echoing the real Leopold and Loeb case, Schroeder turns the film into a battle of wits where the whodunit is never the point — the tension is whether Cassie can outthink two teenagers convinced they're smarter than the law.
