Ghouls, devils, aliens and an axe-wielding killer take turns calling on unsuspecting neighbors. The segments brush up against each other and occasionally share a detail — a mischievous trick-or-treat demon, a jack-o'-lantern that won't stay carved, a little girl scarier than every grown-up combined. The tone swings from pitch-black comedy to genuine dread, which is what you get when a dozen different storytellers split the bill.

Eleven genre directors are behind it — Neil Marshall, Darren Lynn Bousman, Lucky McKee, Mike Mendez and more — while horror icons like Adrienne Barbeau and Barbara Crampton turn up onscreen, plus cameos from John Landis and Joe Dante.
