The Crow

The Crow (1994) is a dark fantasy action film directed by Alex Proyas that you can watch online on iFILM. Brandon Lee plays Eric Draven, a rock guitarist murdered alongside his fiancée by a gang the night before Halloween. A year later a crow leads him back from the grave — pain cannot stop him, bullets pass through him, and he remembers every face from that night.

The city Eric returns to belongs to crime lord Top Dollar, played with cold menace by Michael Wincott. Detective Albrecht (Ernie Hudson) is the one officer willing to track the trail of bodies Eric is leaving behind. Proyas built the film in a gothic neo-noir style that drew on the original graphic novel by James O'Barr — rain-soaked streets, white face paint, and a soundtrack featuring The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, and Rage Against the Machine that became its own cult object.

Dimension Films released the picture in May 1994; made for $23 million, it earned over $93 million worldwide and cemented a visual language that defined dark American genre cinema throughout the decade. Brandon Lee died in an on-set accident before filming was complete, and the finished film became his epitaph — uncommonly moving for an action picture.
