Synopsis

The Sentinel (2006) is a Washington thriller you can watch online on iFILM. The tagline says it plain: in 141 years the Secret Service has never had a traitor, until now. Veteran agent Pete Garrison, who once took a bullet for Reagan, suddenly finds himself the prime suspect in a plot against the President.

Michael Douglas plays Garrison. Kiefer Sutherland is Breckinridge, the protégé he trained, now the investigator hunting him down without knowing the whole story. Garrison is hiding an affair with the First Lady, played by Kim Basinger, and a blackmailer leverages that secret to pin a fellow agent's murder on him. Stripped of his badge and on the run, he has to outmaneuver the very system he helped build.

Director Clark Johnson, fresh off episodes of The Wire, keeps it lean and procedural, with Eva Longoria as a sharp junior agent on the case. It works best as a cat-and-mouse between mentor and student rather than a twisty whodunit. Stream The Sentinel (2006) online on iFILM.
