About

Synopsis

Nine to Five (1980) is Colin Higgins' comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton take on the boss everyone has wanted to throttle.

Three office workers are stuck under a lying, credit-stealing, hand-on-the-shoulder tyrant of a supervisor. One day they snap. A joke about poisoning him spirals into farce, and the women end up holding their boss under house arrest, more or less by accident. With him tied to his own bed, they quietly remake the whole department: flexible hours, on-site childcare, equal pay. The punchline is that productivity goes up.

The film is broad and very funny, yet it aims squarely at workplace injustice few movies named out loud in 1980. This was Parton's screen debut, and she wrote the title song that became a hit and an Oscar nominee. A light but sharp pick for anyone who's ever fantasized about getting even at the office.
