Synopsis

Raising Arizona (1987) is the Coen Brothers' crime comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Small-time robber Hi keeps getting arrested by booking officer Ed, they fall for each other across the front desk, and they marry with one plan: go straight and build a family. The hitch is they can't have a baby. A local furniture tycoon named Nathan Arizona just had five.

If one man has quintuplets, surely he won't miss one — that's Hi's logic when little Nathan Jr. ends up in their desert trailer. From there the wheels come off. Two of Hi's old cellmates bust out of prison, a leather-clad bounty hunter rides in like the end of the world, and quiet married life collapses into car chases, diaper-aisle shootouts and pure chaos. Nicolas Cage gives Hi a sad mustache and a conscience that wakes up at the worst moments, while Holly Hunter turns Ed into a pocket-sized storm.

This was Joel and Ethan Coen's second feature, shot at breakneck speed by cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld. John Goodman and a young, pre-Oscar Frances McDormand turn up in the margins. Endlessly quoted and still imitated, the film hides real tenderness under all the slapstick. Stream Raising Arizona (1987) online on iFILM.
