About

Synopsis

The Big Lebowski (1998) — watch online on iFILM: Joel and Ethan Coen's crime comedy starring Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, a Los Angeles bowling enthusiast and devotee of White Russians whose rug gets ruined when thugs mistake him for a millionaire with the same name. Produced by Working Title Films and PolyGram, the film grossed a modest $47 million on release and went on to become one of the most devoted cult films in cinema history.

The Dude tracks down the real Lebowski (David Huddleston) to demand a replacement rug and ends up tangled in a supposed kidnapping — the millionaire's young wife has gone missing and someone needs to deliver a ransom. His best friend Walter (John Goodman), a Vietnam vet who escalates every bowling dispute to DEFCON 1, is enthusiastically unhelpful throughout. Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Steve Buscemi, and John Turturro as the unforgettable Jesus Quintana fill out a gallery of Los Angeles oddballs.

The Coens wrote the original script and shot the whole thing in a sun-bleached LA style that somehow makes nihilists, ferrets, and adult-film producers feel like perfectly natural neighbors. The film now drives a real-world annual Lebowski Fest. Stream The Big Lebowski (1998) online on iFILM — 117 minutes of deadpan chaos.
