The Andromeda Strain

The military rushes a team of scientists into a sealed underground lab built across five levels of sterilization. Their job sounds simple. Identify the organism that rode in on the satellite, work out why it kills in seconds, and figure out what those two survivors have in common. While the researchers slice samples and run tests, the microbe quietly mutates into something worse, and a nuclear self-destruct charge sits beneath them, primed to go off at exactly the wrong moment.

Adapted from Michael Crichton's first novel, the film plays out almost like a lab report: cold corridors, blinking readouts, procedure over spectacle. No monster ever shows up, only people racing a clock they barely understand. For anyone who likes their sci-fi cerebral and patient, this one holds up.
