"Hammarskjöld: Fight for Peace" (2023) is a Scandinavian historical thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Director Per Fly tracks the final months of Dag Hammarskjöld — Swedish economist and diplomat who ran the United Nations from 1953 until the night his plane went down, and the only person the Nobel Committee has ever honored posthumously with the Peace Prize.
The year is 1961. Civil war has fractured the Congo. Hammarskjöld commits UN peacekeeping forces to active combat — the organization's first military engagement — then boards flight SE-214 to negotiate a truce with enemies who would rather see him gone. The aircraft crashes near Ndola on September 18th. Six decades later, a UN panel still cannot rule out deliberate sabotage.
Mikael Persbrandt plays the Secretary-General as a man of principled conviction adrift in a Cold War where principle counted for little. Stream "Hammarskjöld: Fight for Peace" online on iFILM.
