Synopsis
The Interpreter (2005) is a political thriller directed by Sydney Pollack — watch it online on iFILM. Nicole Kidman plays Silvia Broome, a UN interpreter who stays late one night and picks up a whispered conversation through an open microphone: someone is planning to kill an African head of state during his address to the General Assembly.
Secret Service agent Tobin Keast, played by Sean Penn, is assigned to investigate her claim — and to work out whether Silvia is a witness or a plant. Catherine Keener co-stars as his partner. Pollack secured unprecedented access to the real UN headquarters in New York, making this the first major film to shoot inside the building's actual chambers and corridors rather than on a set.
Released in 2005, the film uses the architecture of the UN — its cramped interpretation booths and echoing halls — as a pressure cooker for the two leads. Kidman's character carries a troubled past in an unnamed African country, and that backstory quietly drives every scene. Stream The Interpreter (2005) online on iFILM.
