I'm Gilda

I'm Gilda (2016) is an Argentine biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Natalia Oreiro plays Miriám Alejandra Bianchi — the schoolteacher who became one of the defining voices of 1990s Argentine tropical music.

Bianchi was past thirty, already a mother, already holding down a classroom, when she first stepped onto a stage as Gilda. The music industry wasn't looking for her. She went anyway. Her songs — cumbia and tropical pop that the Buenos Aires establishment dismissed — played at bus stations and village parties and became anthems for the working-class audiences labels ignored. Then, in 1996, a road accident took her at 34, at the moment her reach was still growing. Director Lorena Muñoz doesn't build a saint — she follows a woman who pushed against domestic pressure, industry indifference and her own doubts, and chose to keep singing regardless.
