Synopsis
Hounddog (2008) is an American drama directed by Deborah Kampmeier — watch it online on iFILM. Set in rural Alabama at the close of the 1950s, the film follows Lewellen, a girl caught between a strict religious grandmother and a troubled father she adores. She finds relief — and identity — in the music and moves of Elvis Presley.
When word spreads that Elvis is coming to town, Lewellen will do whatever it takes to get a ticket. That decision leads to a trauma that reshapes everything. Dakota Fanning took on this role at twelve years old, delivering a performance that is genuinely difficult to watch and impossible to dismiss. Robin Wright, Piper Laurie, and David Morse round out the cast.
The film sparked fierce debate at Sundance 2007 over the weight of its material. Kampmeier's answer, built across every frame, is that this is a story about how blues music and one neighbor's patience pull a child back from a place where language fails. Hard, honest, and it refuses to soften the landing. Stream Hounddog (2008) online on iFILM.
