All Eyez on Me

All Eyez on Me (2017) is Benny Boom's biopic of Tupac Shakur, and you can watch it online on iFILM. The film traces a kid from a rough block to a voice millions listened to, gone at twenty-five.

Demetrius Shipp Jr. made his screen debut here, in a part he resembles almost uncannily. The story opens with his mother, former Black Panther Afeni Shakur, played by Danai Gurira, then moves through the early recordings, acting auditions and poetry toward the Death Row Records deal and a prison stretch. After that come the coast-to-coast feud, the endless headlines, and the Las Vegas shooting in the fall of 1996 that he survived only a few days.

The title borrows from his 1996 double album, which sold in the millions. The movie is a divisive one — people close to Tupac knocked its liberties, while audiences came for the music and the man himself. The studio scenes hit hardest, where Shipp practically becomes him.
