Synopsis
Being Maria (2024) is a French-Belgian biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Jessica Palud and starring Anamaria Vartolomei, the film follows Maria Schneider in the months surrounding the 1972 shoot of Last Tango in Paris — and what Bernardo Bertolucci and Marlon Brando chose to do to her on set without her knowledge.
Schneider was nineteen when she walked onto that set. Bertolucci and Brando hatched a scene hours before the camera rolled without telling her what it involved, and her reaction in the film was not acting. Palud reconstructs what came before that day and what broke loose after — not as courtroom retrospective, but as a close-up of a young woman eaten alive by the industry that was supposed to launch her.
