Synopsis
The Girl of Your Dreams (La niña de tus ojos, 1998) is a Spanish tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. With the Spanish Civil War raging at home, a troupe of Franco-era filmmakers accepts an invitation to shoot a Spanish-German co-production at the famous UFA studios in Nazi Germany. They arrive chasing work and land in the middle of Goebbels' propaganda apparatus.
Director Fernando Trueba lets farce, romance and wartime dread share the same frame. Penélope Cruz plays Macarena, a flamenco-film starlet who catches the eye of a high-ranking Reich official — an infatuation that curdles from flattering to genuinely dangerous. Around her: a sweating producer, jittery actors, and concentration-camp prisoners drafted as extras for the shoot.
