The Last Days
Everything you're about to see is true.
Synopsis
The Last Days (1998) is James Moll's documentary, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Five Hungarian Jews who survived the Holocaust and later became American citizens sit down to tell what they lived through, in their own words and faces.
By the spring of 1944 the war was all but lost, yet the Nazi machine turned its full force on Hungary's Jews, and hundreds of thousands died in barely two months. The survivors walk us through it in order: childhood homes, the trains, the camps, and the liberation of April 1945. One of them is Tom Lantos, who would go on to serve in the U.S. Congress. Half a century later, each returns to the places that scarred them, and the camera follows through old barracks and the streets where they grew up.
Produced by Steven Spielberg's Survivors of the Shoah Foundation, the film took the 1999 Oscar for best documentary feature. There is no swelling narration here, only memory you cannot look away from. Its tagline puts it plainly: everything you are about to see is true. Stream The Last Days (1998) online on iFILM.
