Synopsis

The premise is a wicked invention: what if Max Schreck, the man who played Count Orlok, was an actual vampire? The story unfolds across foggy 1920s Carpathian sets, where the line between art and obsession quietly dissolves. Dafoe plays Schreck as a hunched, rat-toothed creature whose only vanity is hunger.
Director E. Elias Merhige made a film about the cost of creation, how much an artist will surrender, and who he'll sacrifice, for one immortal image. Dafoe's eerie turn was up for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that year. It rewards anyone who loves smart arthouse horror and the lore of early cinema.
