Synopsis

Dracula (1958) is Terence Fisher's horror classic you can watch online on iFILM. This is the Hammer version, the one where Christopher Lee first pulled on the Count's cape and Peter Cushing squared off against him as the vampire hunter Van Helsing.

Jonathan Harker arrives at the Carpathian castle posing as a librarian, but he has really come to end the vampire. The plan collapses, Harker is turned, and Dracula sets off for Harker's hometown to claim his fiancée Lucy. Only Van Helsing, who knows every weakness, the stake, the daylight, the crucifix, can stop him. The final clash in the castle library, the two men face to face, became a textbook moment for the genre.

This is British Gothic at its sharpest: vivid red blood in color, cramped interiors, a tiny budget, and a lot of tension. Lee plays the Count not as a smooth seducer but as a predator, animal, silent, and genuinely frightening. The film kicked off a long run of Hammer Dracula sequels and fixed the screen image of the Count for decades. Essential viewing for anyone who loves vintage horror.
