Synopsis
Hoosiers (1986) is a basketball drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by David Anspaugh. Norman Dale has burned his college coaching career to the ground. His last chance to fix it: a high school team in a tiny Indiana town that doesn't want him.
Dale's temper rubs the whole town wrong, and his hiring choices make it worse — his assistant Shooter is the local drunk everyone laughs at. Gene Hackman plays a man with too many mistakes behind him to gamble again, and too much stubbornness to walk away. Dennis Hopper, as a player's ruined alcoholic father, quietly steals the picture. And the team's best shooter, Jimmy Chitwood, has walked off the court to bury himself in his books.
The story draws on the real 1954 championship run of tiny Milan High. Hopper landed an Oscar nomination for it, and that last shot is still studied as the gold standard of sports filmmaking. If you're tired of easy underdog stories, this one earns its win slowly and through shame — which is why it sticks. Stream Hoosiers (1986) online on iFILM.
