Synopsis
Loose Cannons (Mine vaganti, 2010) is Ferzan Özpetek's Italian tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. The Cantones have been turning out pasta in Puglia since the 1960s, and the youngest son, Tommaso, comes home from Rome ready to finally tell his parents who he really is.
At the family dinner where Tommaso means to come out, his older brother Antonio beats him to it — and the table erupts. Their father throws Antonio out, collapses, and the company lands in Tommaso's lap by accident. So the one son with a secret of his own has to play the dutiful heir, biting his tongue, until his friends from Rome show up unannounced and the careful performance starts to crack. Riccardo Scamarcio anchors it, with Nicole Grimaudo and the wonderful Ilaria Occhini as the grandmother.
What makes it stick is the tone: Özpetek lets the comedy and the hurt sit side by side, refusing easy redemption for anyone. The film picked up several David di Donatello awards and remains a favorite in Italian comedy. Stream Loose Cannons (2010) online on iFILM.
