Synopsis
The Turning (2020) is Floria Sigismondi's gothic horror, available to watch online on iFILM. Schoolteacher Kate (Mackenzie Davis) takes a live-in tutoring job at a sprawling estate, caring for an orphaned eight-year-old named Flora and inheriting a house full of things nobody warned her about.
The first night brings noises in the walls that no draft explains. Then Flora's older brother turns up: Miles (Finn Wolfhard), recently expelled for fighting, charming and unsettling in equal measure. The stern housekeeper Mrs. Grose forbids the children from leaving the grounds, the previous governess vanished without a trace, and the mansion seems to breathe on its own. Sigismondi, who came up directing music videos, leans hard on mood and on the thin line between real ghosts and Kate's fraying mind. A loose take on Henry James's The Turn of the Screw with an ending people still argue over, this one is for viewers who prefer creeping dread to jump scares.
